I don’t normally take “camera shots” of myself, but I wanted to share the results I’ve had with quitting shampoo cold turkey. The last time I used shampoo was August 19, just over two weeks ago, and my hair is clean, soft, and hydrated. I have been conditioning every two days, but I’m looking for an alternative to conventional conditioners right now. But the conditioner alone IS enough to remove the dirt and excess oil from your hair, when well-rinsed afterwards.
What shampoo does is it strips your hair of ALL its oils, including natural, beneficial oils. Since that leaves your scalp feeling under-nourished, it over-compensates by producing more oil than usual, which makes you want to shampoo it again, creating a cycle of over-producing oil and then stripping your hair dry over and over. Removing shampoo from the equation can help your hair regain its natural levels of oil.
If I have any complaints, it would be that my hair is lacking in some of its usual volume, but that is probably due to the conditioner weighing it down, which I’m going to be phasing out, as well as the extremely humid weather.
